Even though testing and vaccination have helped manage the spread and get us back to something that resembles normalcy, the virus continues to affect millions. What is COVID-19?
COVID-19 is a highly infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. COVID is one of many coronaviruses that infect the upper respiratory tract, causing mild to severe illness. This strain of the coronavirus is particularly dangerous to people with pre-existing health conditions such as heart disease or respiratory infections.
What are the Symptoms of COVID-19?
After being exposed to COVID-19, it can be anywhere from two to six days before you exhibit symptoms, the most common of which include:
Body aches
Diarrhea
Fever and chills
Cough
Shortness of breath
Fatigue
Loss of taste or smell
Nausea
When Should I Seek Emergency Care?
Certain symptoms of COVID-19 call for immediate medical care. If you experience any of the following, you should call a doctor immediately:
Trouble breathing
Pain and pressure in the chest
Ongoing confusion
Inability to remain awake
